Impact of Sedimentation on Water Seepage Capacity in Lake Nakuru, Kenya

چکیده

Accumulation and deposition of sediments in waterbody affect the seepage capacity that could lead to improper water balance results level rise. This study analysed influence sedimentation on Lake Nakuru impact sediment characteristics flow rate formation at lake bed level. The was performed by sampling analysing cores from two locations lake. hydraulic properties, i.e., moisture porosity, particle sizes, conductivity, were determined using oven-drying method, sieve analysis, hydrometer falling head tests, respectively. showed sample location P1 had an average ratio 39.38% for silty soil, 34.00% clayey sediment, 26.63% fine-sand particles with maximum permeability coefficient 3.37 ∗ 10 − 5 cm/s, while one P2 63.17% sand, 20.17% fine particles, 16.67% gravels 0.010793 cm/s. conductivity increased along core depth. rise due decreases movement induced cementation top layers under waterbody. Sedimentation affects volume balance; hence, there is a need control inflow resulting anthropogenic activities watershed.
